When I was living with my abuser I was continually thinking of how to keep myself and my daughters safe. I wish I’d known of RAINN then. RAINN’s safety planning discussion may have helped me limit the suffering we experienced. Simple suggestions like creating a code word for “get out,” preparing an excuse to leave the house and making an escape bag. Planning where to go by becoming familiar with safe places and planning the route there. Creating a support network, keeping your cell phone charged, programming emergency contacts into your phone under different names if you have to and memorizing some of those contact numbers. All very helpful tips in learning how to keep yourself safe.
