Why do we wait for someone to be hurt?

img_0394Why do we wait for someone one to be hurt before we take steps to prevent sexual assault? “It wasn’t until she was talking to a classmate that she realized the experience wasn’t normal.” That was what she said. Why aren’t these things a part of our public conversation? We have to get to potential abusers before they hurt someone. How do we do that? Learn to recognize the signs. What do you do when you see the signs? Stop it now as several suggestions. One is to create a safety plan. But most importantly, I think we need to learn to talk about what’s going on. Stop it now even has a hotline to help you learn how to approach someone who may need help. These are important skills to develop. And, we might be able to help someone we love.
